Who is Sigma Lambda Gamma?
SLG is a multicultural sorority that believes in the empowerment of all women through our guiding principles. Our sorority's principles are as follows: Academics, Community Service, Cultural Awareness, Morals & Ethics and Social Interaction. Each individual principle molds us to become true women of distinction. Established in 2009, the Lambda Delta Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma has guided several women to become highly qualified women who are prepared to face the real world and all its obstacles. The chapter's alumni range in fields such as doctors, nurses, teachers, therapists, and our list will continue to grow! Small in size, but large in heart. Our chapter welcomes women who want to grow academically, professionally, emotionally and mentally through sisterhood. As a gamma you will truly feel like a sister! |
Our Purpose
What does this sorority do? What is the PURPOSE?
The purpose of our sorority is promote high standards in morality, ethics and education. Always working to serve our community, our sisterhood, and ourselves. Lastly, to embrace, explore and learn about cultures outside our own. After all we are a multicultural sorority.
Principles in ACTION!
AcademicsOur chapter strives to bring the best academically of each sister. We offer workshops, assistance from alumni and current sisters who have already taken/mastered a course, and a firm stands when it comes to academics. As a chapter, we help each other out the best way we can. After all, the ultimate goal is to graduate and possibly pursue even higher education.

Community ServiceAs a sorority, we serve our local community in several ways. Whether it be fundraising money, or donating our time. A lot of our community service events correlate with our Philanthropy of Breast Cancer. As seen in the picture above, we volunteer annually, with other sisters from the Houston area, in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Cultural AwarenessBeing a multicultural sorority, we invest time trying to be culturally knowledgeable and understanding of one another. Everyone has a different background, everyone has a different upbringing. Having cultural awareness expands our way of thinking and introduces us to new ways of seeing the world.
|
Morals & EthicsTo become a woman of distinction, we have to have good morals and ethics. As a sister goes through her years in college, she will learn about herself, her weaknesses and her strengths. Through practice and experience we will over time grow into women of distinction.
|
Social InteractionAs a nationwide sorority, we have many networking opportunities. Having events, or even going to other chapter's events provide us with connections and the development of bonds with sisters outside of HBU. The picture above is all the Texas chapters during our Southern Retreat.
